42 leads the charge against segregation in baseball!!!

If you are a true sports fan then you may be aware of the day once a year where every baseball player is required to wear a jersey with the number 42 on it, this was not done purely out of the baseball organization’s love for the number 42. In fact, it is quite the opposite, back in 1947 the number was quite hated through the years because of the colored player who wore it, but this man was to for sure change their minds. The president of the baseball association at the time knew he could make more money putting on a show for the fans of baseball by bringing in more talent through the eager to play and energetic colored baseball players in the “negro leagues”. Knowing he only had one slot left, had to choose between a variety on talented black players around the country but chose one man in particular to take on the number 42 for his team, and this man was Jackie Roosevelt Robinson.

Chosen not only for his talent but for his resilience and the stand he made that got him kicked out of the army, all because he would not give up his seat to a white soldier of the same rank. As the president of baseball put it “We need a player who has the guts not to fight back under any circumstance but to stand his ground proudly for who he is.” Through the seasons Jackie showed him just that, a player who took the hate coming at him like a curveball and knocked it right out of the park. Sometimes the hate would hit him hard, sometimes it would hit his family, and other times it would hit his team, it was at this point that his own team tried to vote him out of the club. At no point did he let go of his goals, he pushed through every obstacle and it forced the association to like him in the end.

Through all the hardship the legendary baseball player 42 Jackie Robinson faced, he faced it head on by himself and in the end, he broke the barriers of racial segregation in not only baseball but in every other sport, leaving fans demanding for more talented colored players to come join major league sports all around the continent. It was for these reasons there is the Jackie Robinson day in baseball, not only to celebrate the first African American baseball player and all the hardships he faced but to celebrate the now open to diversity baseball organizations and all its players. All this from the efforts of one man, one great leader.

Edson « Pelé » Arantes do Nascimento

Muhammad Ali is know as a legend in the sport of boxing . He ended his career with 56 wins ( 37 KOs) and 5 losses. he’s considered has a legend because he changed the style of the boxing game. Those kind of abilities that he had made him terrific.

A leadership trait that Muhammad Ali had in his soul was the effectiveness of communication. Muhammad used a method that Grabbed people attention, which is  the »trash talk » method. The Theory of Everyone

Humans have always attempted to schematize the variables and complexities of human personality into well-defined models that account for the main personality traits with the highest degree of accuracy possible, all to predict an individual’s behavior.  But never have I encountered a more spot-on personality type indicator than the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)!

Though simple, never have I felt that my complex and spontaneous personality has ever been truly understood – not even by myself! After an insightful reading of my personality profile, I’ve come to a much better understanding of myself and how my personality reflects the way I handle every situation. Firstly, as an extrovert (Mind), I have found that I get overly energized by social interactions – as said in my profile – and tend to be more enthusiastic and easily excited than most. Reflecting on how this trait affects the leader I aspire to be, my personality, the “protagonist”, is known to be that of a “natural-born leader” as I am full of passion and take pride in guiding others to work together to improve ourselves and our community.

Then, as an intuitive individual (Energy), I often get lost in thought and am described as very imaginative, open-minded, and curious. Though, this aspect leads to a heavy vulnerability as I am always reflecting on and analyzing my own feelings, thus evoking my fluctuating self-esteem – which I have always remarked – feeling as though I am not sufficient for my team. As a Feeling individual (Nature), sensitive and emotionally expressive, I have thus acknowledged that my emotions control me more than I control them.

Finally, as a judging individual (Tactics), I have been noticed for being highly organized and preferring structure and planning over spontaneity. Though, tolerant, I have no difficulty accepting others’ opinions, even when they contradict my own and accepting criticism…as long as it is constructive. Though, it seems that my personality type tends to do this to a fault as I can place too much trust in my pairs, thus worsening my biggest weakness… decision making, which is crucial for all leaders!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

When you think of leaders in music, you would think of the lead singer of any other band. They lead their band, right? But leadership is so much more than just being the face of a group. Someone who was not just a leader in his own band but also in the Rock genre was Jimi Hendrix.

Known as the “Best Guitarist of All Time” by Rolling Stone Magazine, Hendrix used his guitar to create the sound of the 60s. One of the pioneers of “Psychedelic Rock”, he was able to show the world what could really be done with the guitar. His use of feedback, sustain and distortion changed how the electric guitar was seen by the people and other musicians alike.

One major leadership trait that Jimi Hendrix embodied to the utmost degree was charisma. Charisma is necessary for a leader to move people, and move people is what he did. The way that he carried himself on the stage totally hypnotized everyone in the crowd at each of his live shows. From playing the guitar with his teeth to setting his guitar on fire, he knew how to rock a crowd.

Hendrix also used his music to make social commentary. Subjects like black rights were very important to him, so important that he sent money to Martin Luther King Jr. before his death. He was also a firm believer in peace and love at a time where a lot of that was missing. With songs like “Machine Gun”, where he used his guitar to mimic the sounds of gunshots, to make a statement on the war in the Vietnam.

Hendrix was able to break all the rules at the time and make music that changed the world, making him a musical leader.

I’ve got my own life to live. I’m the one that’s going to have to die when it’s time for me to die. So let me live my life the way i want to.

Why Taylor Swift Is a Force (And a Leader!) to Be Reckoned With

When it comes to naming powerful women in important leadership positions (or any great leader, for that matter), the first thing for me that comes to mind, is Taylor Swift. Now, I’m well aware that this may not be as apparent to others as it is to myself. However, I firmly stand by my claim that Taylor Swift, the 29 year old American singer-songwriter, widely known as a controversial hot topic, is well worth the title of “One of the greatest female leaders of our time.” Here’s why.

While the typical commoner only knows her as the prominent narrator of stories about broken hearts, hardships, and falling in love, a simple web search (e.g., “taylor swift leader”) points otherwise: Taylor Swift is as much an icon of the musical industry, as she is a global activist, and leader. She has consistently spoken up against people and tech giants alike (such as Apple and Spotify), effectively raising her voice on behalf of her values and the needs of others. Going as far as taking all of her songs off of Spotify for a few years to make her demands clear, Taylor Swift’s penchant for action above words is an admirable quality for any good leader – allowing her to inspire her many followers spread globally, to speak up for what is right, and for the things they value.

What with news articles sporting titles from “6 Reasons Taylor Swift is a World Leader1” to “Taylor Swift is one of the ‘World’s Greatest Leaders,’ according to ‘Fortune2‘” and “Taylor Swift deserves the leadership praise she’s getting3”, it seems quite fair to say that Taylor Swift is a musician worthy of being classed as “the world’s sixth greatest leader*”.
